They’re using exoplayer on android and it currently doesn’t support ASS subs. The ASS subtitle issue a plex/ android issue. However I don’t think it’s the go-to always perfect for everyone solution. I think the shield definitely has its place, no doubt. The point with 2015 Fire TV won’t be a good experience is also valid, however if you were to replace your device with a newer one every few years it might still be cheaper than buying the shield. I don’t want not need a bloated OS (Fire TV suffers from the same issue, probably even more). Sometimes, very rarely I open up YouTube or twitch. For me personally, I just want to launch plex, play some shows and then turn it off again. Also great if you want a full android TV experience. Totally fine if you need network shared drives and an Ethernet port if your wifi coverage is not great. The best device they ever made was the 2nd gen Fire TV Box and I have yet to forgive them for not going forward with that line to compete with the Shield.įirst of, thank you for taking the time to actually answer the questions.Ī lot of the feature might actually be „useless“ to a lot of people. I've had every Fire TV devcie they have made except the 2nd gen Cube I just didn't need another Echo speaker. The Shield is not some godlike device without flaws but the good has always outweighed the bad by leaps and bounds. Is the ASS subtitles issue a Shield thing or a Plex thing? I don't use them so I don't know. It's OK to just have a Fire TV Stick 4k, or Cube and they have their place but they are built and sold as budget devices and they punch above their price point just like the ONN UHD which outside of Dolby Vision support is every bit the device the Fire TV Stick 4k Max is for half the price.
Try using a 2015 Fire TV device with modern content. Long term support where the 2015 version is still viable. The ability to mount network shares device wide.
Gigabit Ethernet, of course, the support for lossless audio.
Actual Android TV to start with, more space to start with, and much easier to expand storage even more.
